This is the twenty-sixth post of Deke Dangle RPF Anon, a community for all your ice hockey anon meme needs.

THE RULES

I mean it's not a stretch to think most of them would prefer to be playing for Canada/USA (especially the NTDP Americans) but I'm kind of surprised he just...said it.

Gretzky said he thought you should get to play for your national team after one year of "service" to TNA. I don't think McDavid's quote was controversial because I'm pretty sure he was responding to that.

Thanks! And I'm definitely sympathetic to that mindset. As much fun as it ended up being, I thought Team North America was gimmicky and pointless from the beginning, so I wouldn't be surprised if some of the players felt the same way. What he actually said was pretty mild, all things considered.

Yeah, I wasn't being super serious about doubting his commitment. I do think there were players on the team that were more into it/cared more than him though, so I still kind of wish they'd given somebody else the C. Maybe he just doesn't express that much enthusiasm in interviews etc in general, but he just seemed kind of flat most of the time.

Yeah, McDavid's entitled to feeling however he likes about this tournament. I just wish that, given that he didn't seem that into it, he hadn't been been given the captaincy and so much ice time. Neither of which were his fault, but it still feels unfair to everyone else. Another thing to resent the coaching staff for, I guess!

I'm kind of laughing at people who said he would be the best forward on Team Canada. He wasn't even the best Canadian forward on Team NA! Though I guess I'm excited to watch Mackinnon this year now, lol.

I had 0 feelings about MacKinnon before this tournament but now I firmly believe he should have been Captain and can't wait to watch him in the future. He tore it up every game.

MacKinnon always tries. There was a point last year where him Duchene and Gabe were playing on a line. It was fun.

I hope this year he doesn't get hurt and has line mates that can match his speed.

Mackinnon was a real gem and a pleasure to watch. Definitely a highlight of the tournament.

And the Avs don't have Roy anymore. I'm planning to tune into some of their games for sure.

DA - To me that just reads as in four years I want to be successful enough to be in Team Canada.

With maybe just a hint of I want to be on the grown-ups table.

No-Goals McDavid is my fav thing about this I think.

I believe he scored one, and it was the GWG to win the tournament or something like that. But he underperformed there too.

I mean, Brassard is quite good, he and Stepan were 1a/1b centers for the Rangers.

But I do think there's a chance that McDavid might not put up numbers that match the hype this year.

See, I think there's a good chance. Because Jeffler just said McDavid's the best player since Mario, so I've got something of an ax to grind.

...that's quite a claim there.

I'm a little torn. I realize my annoyance has more to do with the hype and the media than with McDavid himself, but I still don't want the media to be vindicated, even though I don't bear McDavid himself any ill will. So on one hand I want him to keep falling short of expectations, but on the other hand that's super mean.

AYRT I kind of wanted him not to have so he hadn't scored at international level.

I think they just hype him so much that he can't possibly meet the expectations of people.

I mean obviously he does, but I think the more PR friendly answer would have been something like "I obviously would love to represent my country in the future, but this experience has been a lot of fun", or like something that at least gives a shout out to the team you're captaining...

Ayrt _ Maybe he is sulking because they only said they wanted him as captain with their bodies. McDavid wanted them to woo him with sweet talk.

Sound like the C should go to a player that actually care. Too bad it's his GM/Coach that was responsible for building Team NA.
