Re: Kinkmeme

I've been looking through the first couple of posts and there are so many good ideas just wasted on the wrong players or players who aren't relevant to fandom anymore.

Re: Kinkmeme

From: (Anonymous)
I don't think there a rule against recycling them.

(I'm not sure though. Someone with actual kinkmeme knowledge please chime in)

Re: Kinkmeme

could always just write them with your preferred pairing and post on AO3 jus saying like 'inspired by this old prompt'

Re: Kinkmeme

Why acknowledge the old prompt at all? There's a slight chance you'll annoy the OP if you write "I want this exact prompt, but with players I like better" and pretty much zero chance you'll annoy anyone by requesting "post-victory handjobs #981653007." No one's that original.

I think acknowledging TSB helps keep it alive, both in people prompting and filling prompts. And, IMO, it's less fun when I read a fic that downplays the fact it was inspired by a specific prompt, when I'm pretty sure I know what prompt they were inspired by. It's not really a faux pas, but it feels against the spirit of it all to me.

(I also think it's less fun when people go straight for posting an AO3 link to their finished fill, but that's a brattiness for another day.)

I think if you want to do an old prompt with different people, repost a variation on it with different people to TSB, then fill away.

I fully acknowledge I don't go there anymore and therefore don't care whether it lives or dies. But I think the etiquette here is to repost the prompt, if you feel that the OP wanted it for the wrong players. Especially since we're talking old prompts where the OP probably isn't tracking responses.

Mostly it makes me feel guilty not to. (Caveat. Am catholic. Breathing makes me feel guilty.)

Re: Kinkmeme

I think it'd be fine as long as you're not obnoxious about it - ie, don't fill an entire page with prompts repurposed for Chara/John Scott, or whatever your ship is that you want.

(...crap, now I want Chara/John Scott. Meme, I played myself.)

How do you define "relevant to fandom?"

Re: Kinkmeme

Likely to get written by people currently in fandom.
