Shipping for the future

From: (Anonymous)
Shipping by trade or signing - What is your prediction for possible pairing that will appear for next season? Or one you're hoping for.

Re: Shipping for the future

Help me out here - who are the big UFAs likely to move, besides Stamkos, obviously? Who are the guys everyone expects to get traded?

Re: Shipping for the future

Backes is expected to move.

Re: Shipping for the future

If only it was to the Stars so I'd get the awkward Backes/Benn fic of my dreams.

Re: Shipping for the future

A good portion of the Stars current Dmen are UFAs. Both JoBenn and Demers seem to be poised to go to free agency :( [This one hurts my shipping heart so much]

Another UFA set to test free agency is Kyle Okposo. I was seeing rumours of Lucic in Edmonton?

Tyson Barrie for Jacob Trouba seems to be talked about for a potential Colorado/Winnipeg trade.

Re: Shipping for the future

I believe Demers is definitely leaving, which makes the team less funny as a whole :(

Re: Shipping for the future

For all the bad blood in the past, there is no doubt in my mind that if Lucic doesn't sign with LA, he'll go home to where his parents still live and sign with Vancouver.

Re: Shipping for the future

From: (Anonymous)
I just saw a tweet that he wants 6x$6M. This Oilers fan seriously hopes he signs in Vancouver.

Re: Shipping for the future

From: (Anonymous)
Vancouver might well be the only team dumb enough to do it.

Eh, the money's reasonable for a first line winger. I think that's what he's getting now, in fact, so a lot of people will think it's a deal since it's not a raise. That term is ugly. But so long as he doesn't want an NMC, I can see a bunch of teams banking on being able to move him if he starts to age.

Re: Shipping for the future

From: (Anonymous)
It's exactly the term that is the bigger problem, and the part he's less likely to compromise on imo. Banking on being able to move him isn't really a smart expectation either (not to say that teams wouldn't think that way). Everyone thinks getting rid of their old expensive players will be easier than it is, because they forget everyone is trying to do that. Even if you manage it, it always comes with some sort of downside.

Adorable AKessel/Fujimoto fic, give it to meeee.

Re: Shipping for the future

It's probably either Nugent-Hopkins or Eberle that the Oilers move, right? I'd be up for shipping either of them in a new context.

I never got into that ot3, so I'd definitely like to see that (ficwise, otherwise I don't care too much lol)

Re: Shipping for the future

From: (Anonymous)
Same. It was partly Taylor Hall, whom I dislike more the more I hear about him, and partly that fic writers never seemed to distinguish the three of them at all in terms of personality/characterization.

Re: Shipping for the future

From: (Anonymous)
Yeah, I agree. I had that problem with Eberle/Hall too, that they did seem very similar, so I always felt even more lost when another dude was added.

Re: Shipping for the future

From: (Anonymous)
Didn't their front office say that McDavid and one other guy were the only ones safe?

Re: Shipping for the future

From: (Anonymous)
What one other guy?

Re: Shipping for the future

Leon Draisaitl.

Re: Shipping for the future

Basically they're trading one of the 6-million-dollar kids for defense (maybe the pick too depending on who they're getting back). So the question is what gets you more and there's 2 schools of thought. Nuge gets more because he's a center (but doesn't have a ton of trade value because he didn't have a great year) or they trade Ebs (who has less value because he is smaller, sometimes defensively irresponsible and plays the wing. But is a consistent 20-30 goal scorer who will probably light it up wherever he is traded)

Or. And oilers fans don't like to hear this. They might trade Taylor Hall (which is just fine with me) because you have to trade value to get value.

I hoping for more CBJ fic:
William Karlsson/Alexander Wennberg
Boone Jenner/Ryan Murray

I know people generally don't like the world cup, but I'm excited for all the NA Team pairing that can be explore.

Still want someone to write that fic where Gary Bettman/NHL fight against the young guns for control over of the (hockey) world.

Re: Shipping for the future

When they become Toronto teammates (and some people are already penciling them in as linemates), I want Mitch Marner/Auston Matthews to be a thing.

I love Marner (and am starting to really like Matthews). But Dylan Strome? I am not into at all. Marner pretty much only seems to show up in fic paired with him.

Re: Shipping for the future

From: (Anonymous)
I hope they'll become a thing. I like how Marner's personality is more outgoing while Matthews' is more subdued (from what I've gathered). Kinda the opposite of the good canadian kid/party boy american stereotype.

I like Marner/Anyone bigger. According to the Knight's site Marner's 5.11" at 164lbs, and Matthews measured 6’2.25", 216.22lbs at the draft: http://lastwordonsports.com/2016/06/04/2016-nhl-draft-combine-heights-weights/
That's a helluva size difference. :O
