Good lord, I went to check it out and she even has the Bruins trading him for being gay, as instigated by noted homophobe Zdeno Chara. There is no new thing under the fucking sun.

Anytime an author feel compelled to write about how un-original their story idea ~might be I want to be like, hey it's obvious you know it's unoriginal and yet you chose to post it anyway, you aren't fooling anyone!

But of course there's a bunch of people loving this paint-by-numbers cowering under homophobia fic with bonus true lurv and a on-the-nose tie in to the original tweet, so maybe the real fool is me.

The whole, "How could anyone have thought otherwise?!? So confusing," thing is also very telling.

Not to mention namedropping aohatsu, which just makes the both of them look disingenuous and with very short memories.

And he and Marchand aren't even bros in this. I just. >:\

Honestly, if we're tinhatting I think it's way more likely that the Bruins would have traded him for nebulous character issues + being a homophobic shitbag, given how vocally supportive of LGBTQ+ rights some very prominent Bruins' players have been. Actually, I would read the hell out of a fic where Tyler Seguin gets frozen out of the Bruins' locker room because there's a gay couple on the team and he acts like the stereotype of every oblivious "I'm not homophobic I just want to know which of you is the girl" straight bro ever.

I mean, considering how they didn't want to touch Tim Thomas with a 10 foot pole after he showed his homophobic ass, this isn't too far off.

I want this.

I would likewise happily read the hell out of that. Not a Bruins fan but damn it, enough.

I still kinda want fic about the rumors they traded him because character issues + he was hanging out with the wrong crowd (that would have made him an accomplice to murder) because I'm somewhat of a terrible person.

Yeah, this. I don't think tinhatting is necessary.

Half the commenters are explicitly saying that coming out is how they interpreted that tweet.

I think for most people it is just a trope, but there are definitely some fans who believe 100% Seguin is not straight and was trying to come out with that tweet.

I thought the queer Seguin tinhatting had died down, but it seems to be making a comeback on Tumblr, and Linksy's replies to the comments on her fic make me think it's not just a trope for her either.

The tinhatting definitely exists outside of it being a fic trope. Because I've seen this idea (and other dubious tinhat theories) what feels like a million times, even though I don't go Seguin fic with a ten foot pole. (And as a trope, it's still gross.)

I found that really weird, especially because it's not a very good fic. It's not terrible or anything, but I feel like we've seen the exact same thing done better a bunch of times. Did Linsky promote it somewhere or something? Where are all of these commenters coming from?

I only glanced at the comments, but I'm already loling at the first one: I never really understood how that tweet made him homophobic, maybe I'm missing something? And Linsky's response: Right??? He was saying literally nothing bad about queer people. HE WAS SAYING HE WAS ONE. Just...wow.
