#23 — Brown Goes Down

This is the twenty-third post of Deke Dangle RPF Anon, a community for all your ice hockey anon meme needs.

THE RULES

I've just started working my way through the fics, but the Strome/McDavid magical realism fic is great. I loved their Eichel characterization.

I really liked "a long dream on a late night", the one where McDavid and Eichel decide to pretend to be friends to get the media to stop bugging them. It's just really light and cute. And I liked that they actually talked to each other in the end, even if it took them a little while to get there.

I'm not saying the Rask/Seguin fic is a good fic, but it's kind of refreshing to have a Stars player be a homophobic jerk when Tyler's dating a Bruin, instead of the other way around.

Carter/Richards/Williams. If you're into the mind control/tentacles/oviposition trend, then you need to read this fic. It's a pretty slow buildup, the kind where I keep having to take breaks and then come back to it.

Long, beefy Sid/Claude with no mention of wrists at all!!! I've been reading excerpts here and there and loving it. What happens to the Pens in the future is super sad and inevitable and the parts about Tanger makes me feel claustrophobic but I'd still read more of it.

I really like hooker fic, esp. trope inversion hooker fic, but I kept want this to be a different story than it was. I felt like they didn't really have much tension, and I didn't find Gudbranson at all likeable.

I don't even care about either Krejci or Lucic, or time loops either for that matter, but I loved this fic so much. I liked how there's all this kissing and sex, but then it's talking about shit that's the big climax of the story.

Sweet! Non-sexual submission is my favorite! But like, no way can I buy Oshie as a 'baby deer just trying to get through the playoffs'. That just makes a spiteful, contrary part of me wish even harder for Dominant Masochist Oshie.

I know we're kind of talking about it in the other thread but that's more of long fic in general and I want to talk about this fic in particular so i started a new one hope that's ok.

I really like most of it, like 80%. The story felt like it was constantly moving forward with their relationship and it didn't feel repetitive for the vast majority then it feels like they never resolved the running away from your life subplot.

It's that not quite enough ending. They got Jack and Connor together and talked out enough to feel really resolved and solid but the whole Connor can't deal with his life thing never actually felt dealt with. The story ends before they actually go home and (maybe just personally) I needed Connor to go home, and i think that could have been as small a thing as turning his phone back on (especially after they kept bringing it up all the time). Just something of him willingly returning to his reality. I kind saw where they were sort of doing it (like asking Jack to send the picture to Dylan) but it just didn't feel like enough, since he was still using Jack as a buffer.

I am already a little thrown because everyone is known as Ms/Mr. (Initial). Names have power, and it makes sense, but I might have to strip all the periods after the initials to soothe my own pettiness.

Also, Fleury's name on the card Marc Flower? such a creative pseudonym, right. (I lol'd)

For that anon wondering, there is a lot about bees in this fic, but sadly, barely anything about beekeeping, so there's no loving description of that.

This might be an annoying question, but is thenorthface's "out of play, out of competition" worth reading before it's finished? I was planning on giving it a shot once she finished it because I have a general rule not to read anything that's marked as /? on ao3 because I feel like it has a potential to never end. But it's still being updated and it's 50k now and I'm curious... is it a cliffhangery point in the story or would it be worth it to pick it up now?
