#24 – Not Sure If Serious or Playing Dumba

This is the twenty-fourth post of Deke Dangle RPF Anon, a community for all your ice hockey anon meme needs.

I've tried listening to PDOcast, and I just can't with the constant arguing with invisible silent straw men. I want to hear their opinion, not them getting mad at and calling stupid the hypothetical opinion of the great unwashed non-stats following masses.

I can't honestly figure out WHY he was granted exceptional status. And granted I haven't done a ton of research. But it seems like it was mostly on potential everyone thinks he could be great. But in practice he is not often great - while everyone else granted exceptional status else had a little more concrete production to base it on??

Even if they knew, they wouldn't care. At worst, it's a guy getting his rocks off (a rich successful hockey player, no less), not any sort of political statement.

If you're talking about the Marner/Strome fic, that entire series is some sort of daddy kink. I'd give it the quotation mark treatment because the entirety of the kink is the use of the word daddy.

I listen to Hockey Central while I run. They often have good interviews - Kypreos and MacLean are terrible, but sometimes I think it's worth listening to because in some ways they represent a chunk of mainstream hockey old boys club that is still really prevalent today. Also sometimes they are just epically batshit - which makes me laugh. And when they argue I run faster. So that's nice too.

Junior is good if you want way more CHL knowledge than you ever did before. Sam Cosentino is really, really knowledgable and since I live in a WHL town I learn a lot about the league that isn't really covered locally. And since they come with the power of Sportsnet they usually have some pretty good guests as well.

I wanted Girls Just Wanna Have Puck with Katie Brown to be good because I like her but the other girl (Tally maybe??) was so hard to listen to that I was always turning it off 10 minutes in. (And I don't think they've done an episode in like a year)

Well, note that they are only claiming that Pensburgh rips off Jesse Marshall and Meesh, because reading Pensburgh is "like" reading those two, whatever that means.

Maybe some of it has to do with size? As in, they're more willing to grant the status to a six foot two 200 pounder because at least they know he won't get trucked over by 20 year olds.

As opposed to McDavid I guess, smaller but def exceptional.

For all the bad blood in the past, there is no doubt in my mind that if Lucic doesn't sign with LA, he'll go home to where his parents still live and sign with Vancouver.

Eh, the money's reasonable for a first line winger. I think that's what he's getting now, in fact, so a lot of people will think it's a deal since it's not a raise. That term is ugly. But so long as he doesn't want an NMC, I can see a bunch of teams banking on being able to move him if he starts to age.

It's exactly the term that is the bigger problem, and the part he's less likely to compromise on imo. Banking on being able to move him isn't really a smart expectation either (not to say that teams wouldn't think that way). Everyone thinks getting rid of their old expensive players will be easier than it is, because they forget everyone is trying to do that. Even if you manage it, it always comes with some sort of downside.
