#29 – Lay, Lie, or Laine?

This is the twenty-ninth post of Deke Dangle RPF Anon, a community for all your ice hockey anon meme needs.

THE RULES

No offense to anybody here that was formerly a 1D fan, but it's so noticeable and cringeworthy to me how people who joined this fandom via that route have NO BOUNDARIES when it comes to rpf. In a huge fandom you can be a creep about family members and girlfriends or whatever and nobody will notice, but hockey players are so much less famous that it makes me uncomfortable when they get treated the same way as fricken harry styles. I also wish I could tell them that a LOT of these dudes search their names on twitter, even the ones that have a lot of fans!! Lock your account if you're gonna be a creep and use full names while you do it, lol.

I feel like if I have to see one more thread on reddit about how the Leafs this year are the most incredibly improved, deserving, amazing playoff team since the beginning of hockey and "has anyone else ever done this?!?!", I'll have to punch my screen.

*frysquint* alright, but you write mitch marner fic? what? so it's okay to say things that are shitty if you're a fandom favorite? because there's like... actual documented proof of marner being a homophobic, sexist asshole, as opposed to "he said something once but i have no receipts".

(also if anyone DOES know what barzal said that has a few people disliking him, i want to know, if only so i can judge for myself whether or not it was actually bad or just Tumblr Bad.)

Joe Blandisi looks like a less unfortunate version of a kid who creeped on me in high school and still tries to message me on the reg. Which sucks because I really like Blandisi but every time I see his face from certain angles I cringe involuntarily.

Lately the only fic ideas in my head involve players cheating on WAGs with teammates. But I'm not even sure *I* am comfortable with putting that on the internet, even archive-locked, and I know fandom's generally not fond of putting non-famous WAGs in fic, especially as anything other than poly-supportive angels. I'm not sure if I should just write it as drawer fic, post under a sock, or actively try to make my brain want ANYTHING else.

Usually I just scroll past the Kane/Toews that people are still inexplicably writing, but I couldn't help hate-clicking Linsky's latest fic, in which Patrick Kane sells his Trump Tower condo specifically because he'd never want to be associated with Trump.

How fucking tone-deaf do you have to be to write sympathetic Patrick Kane fic in order to cope with Trump's election??

Why do I keep seeing fic in which Sean Monahan was Nathan MacKinnon's roomie at the draft? It was Seth Jones https://www.nhl.com/news/mackinnon-empire-state-building-was-a-rough-trip/c-18739

Is there a reason people keep writing about Sean Monahan sharing with him?

Sometimes when I open the NHL app to check scores it shows me the day in 2015 when the Blackhawks won the cup against the Lightning rather than the current day, and I find this personally offensive. I was sad that day! I became a Bolts fan because of that series!! Fix your shit, NHL!

Hockey tumblr is going through some weird kind of wag discourse rn and of course we have to bring this back to "well I'M a minority so you can't call me out on anything" and "of course when I insult white women it's not misogyny because they're white" oh my Fucking god how did this even happen in hockey fandom

Is it too much to expect that after that historic sweep by the Preds, all the Hawks badfic would vanish from the list of newest fic in the fandom tag. The team got faded on /r/hockey, I wish they would also disappear from ao3.

I will never understand the appeal of 1st overall pick/2nd overall pick pairings. They almost never end up being good rivalries beyond the second year or so after the draft so what is even the point?

Just saw a Leafs fan throw shade at the Avs for the failed "tank". If the lotto balls had bounced the other way last season you wouldn't be fucking laughing now would you? And the Avs didn't even tank unlike the Leafs, they were literally just that much of a garbage team.

Do any team powerpoint presentations on tumblr not suck? If nothing else could we ban the description of any player as either "My Dad" or "My son".

Also, this is a terrible time of year to make one, will they still be your Dad when they are traded, taken by Vegas, or shot into the sun for the good of humanity (or brought out if hiring a space craft is an issue).

There have been *two* fics with Lawson Crouse this month and in BOTH of them he is paired with Dylan Strome. This is the last thing that I want!!!! /end petulant stomping

I wish I understood how the NHL decides what products to sell to what fanbase. These are adorable, for example, but apparently only come in Red Wings and Bruins.

can we ban "soft hockey boys" and all variations FOREVER? i keep seeing that (even from people i otherwise like) and it makes me incredibly annoyed.

bonus points for banning *anything* where marner's helping "deconstruct masculinity" or whatever the fuck people are claiming on tumblr today. he kisses one of his teammates/bros in public, with tongue, doesn't "no homo" it in the slightest and maybe even says "good kisser etc." like fournier and drouin, i'll give him some credit on that. till then, no love from me and please shut up.

Man, I can't articulate why, but deciding a players' voting habits matter enough to you to warrant an explicit warning but not enough for you to stop following him on social media and writing fic about them bothers me. Probably because it clashes with my all or nothing dissonance about how socially awful a lot of these guys are, but, ugh, it's a back click for me.
